Automotive Radar Sensor
Radar (RAdio Detecting And Ranging) emits an electromagnetic beam from an antenna. An object in the path of the beam reflects it to the radar antenna. Radar Sensors are sensors that use electromagnetic radio waves to determine the presence, distance, position, or speed of objects. Automotive MMW radar is mainly comprised of a planar printed antenna, RF IC (generally called MMIC), and DSP-contained MCU.
Today vehicles from several suppliers offer Level-1 to Level-4 autonomous driving where drivers are on standby but can be hands-off for periods, integrating around five radar systems. These include Short-Range Radar (SRR) and Mid-Range Radar (MRR), providing emergency breaking, Adaptive Cruise Control or several other active safety functions.
Currently, ITAS is prototyping configurable 77 GHz radar sensor with professional engineering team. By using highly efficient hardware and smart software, the radar provides extended field of view, increased range, and improved measuring capability at close range. Thus, 77 GHz radar sensor can be used for multiple automotive applications.
